Salmon travel thousands of miles during their lifetime. They are known to return to their birthplace to either create more salmon or die trying. Their life cycle can vary but due in part to the increase of farm raised salmon, this beautiful fish is typically available year-round in the supermarket.
Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These essential fatty acids are important for brain function and development. The American Heart Association has recommended eating fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids at least twice a week because it may help reduce the risk of heart disease.
There are different varieties of fish that are known as salmon including sockeye, coho, and king salmon. King salmon and sockeye are generally preferred with king salmon typically being the most expensive. Whichever variety you choose, there are many salmon recipes available to satisfy your salmon craving.
